Doug Chappel - 25th Anniversary Show

Doug Chappel - 25th Stand Up Comedy Anniversary Show - 25 to Life

Doug is considered a legend of the Aussie comedy scene. Born with a rusty spoon in his mouth in the wild suburbs of Melbourne’s inner west Doug has gone on to be one of the most popular comedians going around. Whether he is smashing it on stages overseas, gigging on Cruise Ships, entertaining troops in war zones, bringing comedy to the Outback, performing at the biggest Comedy Clubs, or fronting Australia’s most successful Tuesday Night Comedy Show at the prestigious Comics Lounge, Dougie always delivers an amazing show. Doug is also a well educated man (I know, he hides it well!) and his comedy is often underpinned by his insights into the way we all behave.

Doug “Dougie” Chappel would have to be the Comics Lounge most favoured son. He has been there with them since they started and as he reaches the classic milestone of 25 years as one of Australia’s premier stand-up comedians it’s fitting that he should celebrate there, on a stage he has made his own for most of those 25 years.

25 to Life, is Doug Chappel’s 25th Anniversary Special, where he talks about his life in comedy. It’s a journey of how Dougie went from living in flats in Melbourne inner West, getting kicked out of Footscray Tech in year 8, failing a year at another school, being involved in crime, his battles with depression & living on the street in London… to having a successful career as a comedian, running numerous businesses, working with troubled youth as a psychologist & gaining 5 University degrees.

1997 saw this unemployed cheeky and lovable bloke try his hand at stand-up comedy, and he has been at the craft ever since. He is well known and highly regarded by the elite of Australia’s comedy greats and regularly stands on stage with the best of them.

Doug was also the comedy director, resident comedian and co host of Studio Australia’s variety show ‘Armstrong Live’ that ran for two seasons and won the ‘Optus Award’ for ‘Best Entertainment’ in the late 90’s. Comedy has also taken him all around the world, he regularly travels out of the country and has been invited to perform in places such as the UK, US, Asia and for Australia’s men and women of the armed forces in the Middle East. He has performed on cruise ships, outback stages, theatres and has won awards for his hilarious performances.

Doug often appears as a guest on both TV and Radio and has a regular spot on Triple M. He is one of the circuits hardest working comedians who has also given his time to many charity events. Whether it be as a mentor to up and coming comedians or a confidante of so many established performers it would be more than worth your time to come see him celebrate his quarter of century in making people laugh and feel great.
